About bowel cancer

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer and the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK. Once you turn 60 a Bowel Cancer Screening kit will be sent to you in the post. This will continue every 2 years until you reach 74.

Why should I take the screening test?

When identified at an early stage bowel cancer can often be cured. Diagnosis at a later stage may potentially mean more extensive surgery, or the need for additional treatments such as chemotherapy. In addition to this the outlook is often a poorer at the later stage. In light of this we would strongly suggest you undertake the very quick and simple test and redo the test every two years.

About the screening test

The Bowel screening process is safe, easy and painless.  You simply transfer very small samples of your poo onto the screening card and follow the instructions in the kit. The simple test can detect early signs of bowel cancer before it even causes any noticeable symptoms. We firmly believe that this is a really important screening test that can potentially save your life.
